Ekaterina Aristova's new series of seven works on Nepalese paper, Salutation to the Sun, is dedicated to the awakening of nature and feelings. The author presents the uniqueness and beauty of emotions captured in the present moment.
A work different from her oils on canvas, in which two stages follow one another, first giving rise to lines from an unconscious phase then revealing part of the mystery through a certain figuration. Here, the work is more minimalist, and the artist refuses to emphasize or complete with new shapes or color the path of the lines born from an instant so as not to alter the purity of the emotion flashed on the paper. She chooses to preserve the authenticity of movement, its natural identity and its lightness, letting the viewer enter a sensory universe and freely connect it to their inner world. In this series full of lyricism and sensuality Aristova offers him titles to guide him such as Awakening, Ruisseau, Levant or enigmatic Manitou, Kundalini, Equinox.
The series was produced during meditative sessions, to the sound of Buddhist music. The works are made with charcoal bars and oil sticks on traditional Nepalese paper in two shades: off-white and very light powder pink. The beauty of this paper became a source of inspiration for Aristova. It is made from the bark fiber of lokta, a shrub that grows above 3,000 meters altitude in the Himalayas. This natural paper with irregular edges conveys in the works a feeling of proximity to nature and the spirit of wisdom of eastern Nepal.
Salutation to the Sun is an ode to spring, to the awakening of spirituality and sensuality and rapprochement with nature. This new series by Ekaterina Aristova is a continuation of the artist's reflections on the theme of the path of life, here through freedom of expression and self-acceptance. “Freedom begins within us.”
The strength of minimalism, the soothing philosophy, the poetry of the titles associated with the power of the natural materials used by the artist reveal the beauty and truth of the emotions of a moment. Aristova expresses her fragility and her search for freedom. Each line is a pattern of pure, flowing energy. Equinox of spirit and sensuality. Each line is a sentence, Salutation to the Sun is a poem of the power and beauty of virgin nature.
